Summertime in the Peach State is unlike anywhere else. Sure, it can be hot with a lot of mosquitos, but we have plenty of ways to cool down. No matter what part of Georgia you’ll be visiting, you’re sure to have a great time. Here are my top picks for your Georgia Summer Adventures!
1. Rush South Whitewater Park, Columbus
Splash into one of the most exciting sections of whitewater in the country! Columbus has continued to be our favorite destination to take groups in Georgia, so it’s no surprise that it’s number one on our Georgia Summer Adventures list. With a dam-controlled flow, Rush South has the ability to provide two types of whitewater rafting opportunities. In the morning, our low-flow excursions provide just the right amount of adventure for the whole family, while the afternoon high flow provides an adrenaline pumping experience.
Dry off on the Blue Heron Adventure as you soar on the only dual zip lines in America that connect two states! Fly over whitewater rapids to Alabama to complete the Blue Heron Aerial Course, and fly back to Georgia.
After a day of rafting and zipping, relax on the Riverwalk: a popular place to run, bike, walk, or grab some great food. I love Banks Food Hall, and always recommend to those adventuring in the area. If you are interested in a custom, outdoor adventure weekend in Columbus, contact me here.
2. Providence Canyon State Park, Lumpkin
Craving some Southwest vibes without the airfare? Look no further than Providence Canyon State Park. Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon” is a testament to the power of man’s influence on the land. Massive gullies as deep as 150 feet were caused simply by poor farming techniques. Today these gullies make up some of the prettiest photographs within the state, while also allowing trekkers to play in the dirt. With multiple trails and a beautiful landscape, its no surprise that Providence made it on our Georgia Summer Adventures list.
Need a spot to cool down after the hike? Head on over to Omaha Brewing Company for some cold drinks, good food, and those summer daze vibes.
Bonus: This state park is only 45 minutes away from Rush South Whitewater park, so it is entirely possible to add this to your weekend in Columbus!
3. Full Moon Float, Milledgeville
We love a one of a kind experience, and the Full Moon Float in Milledgeville is unlike any other Georgia Summer Adventure. Experience kayaking the Oconee River by the light of the full moon. Mark your calendars for Oconee Outfitter’s popular nighttime kayak event!
Summer Dates: June 2nd 8:00 PM and July 29th 8:30pm
I highly recommend staying in Milledgeville for the day to discover why it was voted one of America’s Best Small Towns. A detailed sample itinerary is coming soon!
4. Lookout Mountain Flight Park, Rising Fawn
Another Ventre’s Adventures favorite sits on our Georgia Summer Adventures List! Lookout Mountain Flight Park offers a wide variety of activities for those looking to catch some serious air. For our first timers, you can book a tandem flight at 1,500 to 3,000 ft. For those looking to take up a new sport, you can train to become a pilot at various flight school programs. All activities are weather dependent, which is why summer is the perfect time to book a flight. The flight instructors and the entire team are first-class professionals with years of experience. They like to have a good time, so expect a sense of humor with their eagle-eyed attention to safety and detail.
Looking to make a day of it? Lookout Mountain flight park is conveniently located 10 minutes from Cloudland Canyon State Park. You can hike in the morning and fly in the afternoon, or vice versa!
Wanting something more than a hike? Lookout Mountain Flight Park is just 30 minutes outside of Chattanooga, where you can explore the city, grab some amazing food, and rent a paddle board on the river.
5. Lake Lanier Islands, Forsyth County
Lake Lanier. The infamous man made, busy Georgia lake. While most people are familiar with its water park and boat rentals, what you may not know is that there is a teacher owned outfitter that is fully supported by Forsyth County Parks and Rec. Burton Outdoor Adventures (BOA) is an e-Foil (motorized board), kayak and paddle board rental and instruction facility. They currently have 5 locations on Lake Lanier, and they are continuing to expand.
I am so excited to be partnering with Burton Outdoor Adventures to bring to you Lake Life Summer Camp July 17th- July 20th 2023. Details to follow!
6. Historic Banning Mills, Whitesburg
Our final Georgia Summer Adventure has a little bit of everything. Welcome to Historic Banning Mill, an adventure resort in Whitesburg, Georgia. This resort currently holds TWO Guinness World Records: the world record for the longest zip line canopy tour and tallest free-standing rock wall. While most people come for the zip lining, you can complete aerial courses, tour on ATVs, hike, traverse suspension bridges, horesback ride, etc. There is so much to do!
Located about 45 minutes South of Atlanta, you can choose to stay on site or to drive to the Beltline for some post adrenaline dinner and drinks!
